Galashiels Visitor Attraction Gets the Green Light

The opening of a visitor centre in Galashiels which tells the story of Scotland through one of the world’s largest tapestries is now well under construction, with a planned opening in Spring 2021.

Ogilvie Construction was appointed by Scottish Borders Council to construct this unique facility on a previously derelict town center site.

The new building which will house the tapestry has been designed by architectural practice, Page & Park, while the adjacent former Post Office will be re-purposed to bring the B-listed building back into use. There will also be retail, café, education and touring exhibition space, as well as an ongoing event and exhibition programme.

Business Development Manager Barrie Sheppard said, “Prestigious projects like this, don’t come about very often, so when we were given the opportunity to work with Ogilvie Construction on such a fantastic development, we jumped at the chance”.
