Description: This new store, situated close to the Iona Street junction, opened in September 2018

Celebrity chef Tony Singh carried out the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Lidl Easter Road is Scotland’s first ‘metropolitan’ store, with food and other goods stocked on the first floor and a car park on the ground level.

The store boasts a 1286 square metre sales area and opens with an in-store bakery.

Up to 40 new jobs have been created through the outlet.

Customers can view two newly commissioned works by local Edinburgh artists Graeme Clark, known as Old Man Grey, and the Edinburgh Sketcher as part of the opening.

Lidl UK regional head of property Gordon Rafferty is quoted in the Edinburgh Evening News as saying: “It is great for us to be able to create more jobs and investment opportunities in the area and we can’t wait to start serving our multi-award winning products to the local community.”

The two storey format with the introduction of an underground car park, meant the requirement for fire rated curtain walling on this development, as part of their design process Marshall Brown chose to use the Aluprof system. Their extensive range of products were the perfect fit for this project.

Brian Ross, Marshall Brown’s Comercial Manager was quick to point out, “the challange presented with the unique design of this store led us to work in partnership with Aluprof, as their range of products allowed us to offer a one system solution to ensure the architects and local planners design needs were met”.
